Easee has received confirmation from Elsäkerhetsverket that their inspection of our electric car chargers is complete, and that a sales ban will be imposed in Sweden with immediate effect. Elsäkerhetsverket’s decision is only applicable in the Swedish market. Our chargers are available and approved for sale as normal in all other markets.

Last updated: 30.03.2023

Easee has filed a legal appeal against the imposed sales ban. We are of the firm opinion that there is no technical or legal basis for imposing such a ban.

– We strongly disagree with the decision and will do everything we can to safeguard our customers, partners and employees. Our main focus has always been people and safety, says founder and CEO Jonas Helmikstøl.

He adds: – Our customers can continue to charge safely as usual, and do not need to take any actions. We will continue to fight this decision and to work for a greener future through innovative products.

Easee emphasizes that there have been no incidents that form the basis of the imposed sales ban, as is also highlighted within Elsäkerhetsverket’s report. The report states that Elsäkerhetsverket does not believe there is any risk of harm to people or possessions.

Elsäkerhetsverket has imposed a sales ban on Easee chargers. What does that mean for end users in other countries?

Elsäkerhetsverket has imposed an immediate sales ban on Easee chargers. This means that sales of Easee chargers will temporarily cease in Sweden.

We strongly disagree with Elsäkerhetsverket’s decision and have documented this thoroughly – both technically and legally. Easee has launched an appeal against the imposed sales ban. We believe there is no technical or legal basis for imposing such a ban, and we will work to be available for sale again soon.

For those who have an Easee charger installed, this sales ban will not affect you. Elsäkerhetsverket has highlighted in their final report that our chargers do not pose a threat to people or property. We believe our products are amongst the safest on the market today – and all our customers can charge in complete safety. Safety and innovation have been the main focus at Easee since the very beginning.

For you, as a user of our products, nothing will change. The products will continue to be updated – the app, cloud solution and connectivity will function exactly as before.

    • Does this process have any impact on operations in other countries? Will there be a sales ban elsewhere? Open/close

    • Why have Elsäkerhetsverket implemented a sales ban on Easee chargers in Sweden? Open/close

Elsäkerhetsverket raises concerns about a few technical elements that it believes have not been sufficiently documented for Easee Charge and Easee Home products. Elsäkerhetsverket is not satisfied with Easee’s original technical documentation. Easee has provided extensive risk assessment documents from independent third parties to Elsäkerhetsverket during the investigation process to remedy this.

One of the concerns about documented proof of safety relates to Easee’s ground fault protection. Easee Charge and Easee Home have integrated ground fault protection against both AC and DC faults in line with the essential requirements in the relevant directives. This ground fault protection is automatically tested between each charging session and at least once a day. This is a permitted option in IEC 62955 (either manually or automatically).

Elsäkerhetsverket has been clear in their report that there is no risk to people or property presented by Easee chargers. We are updating our technical documentation to add all necessary information, risk assessments and third-party tests that support the safety of the innovative technology within our products.

    • What is the status now and what happens next between Easee and Elsäkerhetsverket? Open/close

On Thursday 23 March 2023, Easee received notice from the Swedish administrative court in Karlstad that a temporary injunction against Elsäkerhetsverket’s sales ban will not be granted. Easee continues the ordinary appeal process. This means that there is still only a sales ban in effect in Sweden. A sales ban in Sweden will only be applicable in other EU/EEA countries after the respective EU countries have initiated and concluded their own processes. They have 90 days to initiate this. Easee is now preparing the appeal case for court.
