People first – the Easee way!
An excerpt blog post from our CEO and Chief Caretake, Jonas Helmikstøl.
The other night it struck me, hard, how extremely important our #1 culture law really is. To always put people first.
It never stops to amaze me how cruel us humans can be and how quickly we can turn on each other.
We make our friends, colleagues, spouses, kids and family our enemies, and it happens within milliseconds. We judge, we yell, we criticize and we push people out. But why?
It has to do with our primitive minds and how we have been thought to survive, by years of evolution. When our minds detects a threat, a fight or flight reaction is triggered.
Threat: «a statement of an intention to inflict pain, injury, damage, or other hostile action on someone in retribution for something done or not done.-Google
On the other hand, the one thing that separates us from animals is our unique way of interacting with each other, showing compassion, vulnerability and love.
When we agree on a common direction and vision, we remove friction, and we create momentum. Momentum to change the world for the better.
We are able to build things. Incredible things. Together.
When our cloud went offline some weeks ago, it was clear to me that I had to get involved. To go ahead as a role model and to show everyone that I cared.
Even though I was scared and sick to my stomach. I had complete trust in our people and our capabilities. This calmed me down when my brain tried to enter panic mode, I didn’t let it. I never lost control over my primitive self.
Trust, love, vulnerability and courage won. Again.
In order to solve the cloud issue, it required focus, a common vision and momentum from the team. We needed to practice our values as never before.
Love, vulnerability, respect, humbleness, honesty, trust and openness.
Because blame, judgement, yelling and scarcity only creates unnecessary friction, and it doesn’t get us anywhere.
We need to remind ourselves of this, every single day, especially when things go to sh*t.
When we see a friend, colleague or spouse that loses his or her way, we need to remind them of their values. We need to remind ourselves that we are on the same team. We are in the same boat.
Doing something together is better. “The quality of your life is the quality of your relationships.” -Tony Robbins.
Me and Kjetil (CTO) has been working together for many years, and I would never be where I am today without him, his mentorship and friendship.
We talk about everything.
- Our achievements and joys
- Our mistakes, our fears, and what to do with them
- We challenge each other
- We support each other
- We ask for, and give each other feedback
I can honestly say that this is what keeps me going. This in combination with all the other great relationships in my life.
The love for and from the people around me is what gives me courage to fight.
It makes me stronger. It makes me better. Every single day.
Who are the one(s) that keeps you going?
Who do you share your biggest fears or doubts with?
Who do you show vulnerability to?
If you haven’t already, I would strongly recommend that you find someone close to you that you trust. A sparring partner. A brother or sister in arms. Someone that can challenge you, or pick you up when you need it the most.
It will only make you stronger, and it will give you the courage to do and conquer anything.
I have a dream!
I dream that easee will be the living proof of what the human race is capable to achieve when you put people first, when we practice our amazing values to its extent and when we have a common vision to make the world a better place.
Feel free to join the ride <3
